There are 100 apartments at Oak Wood Place.
Some residents take a suite of two apartments together.

Will anyone remind me to come to meals, take a bath, or change clothes?
At Oak Wood Place, we do all of that and more.

If I need to go to the doctor, who will take me?
We make your appointments for you for the doctor or for any test you may need.
We will take you to your local doctor's appointments.

Can I have therapy or rehab treatments at Oak Wood Place?
Yes. We work with a number of visiting nurse services that arrange for physical, occupational therapies.
We will arrange for respiratory therapy or any other type treatments you need.
Most of the therapy can be done at Oak Wood Place.

Do you accept residents who are on oxygen?
Yes. At Oak Wood Place we have several oxygen users and are very familiar with the needs of an oxygen patient.
Every Friday, we even check your oxygen supply to be sure you don’t ever run out.

I have Parkinson’s. Can I live at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
Yes. We are familiar with Parkinson’s and can be of assistance to a Parkinson’s resident and their family.

Do you accept Alzheimer’s residents?
It depends.
If they are ambulatory and do not wander, we will accept them.
With the family, we will evaluate the needs and determine if the resident would be suitable for us.

Do you accept Medicaid for apartment rentals?
Yes. We accept Medicaid if you qualify for assistance
|
What does Medicaid pay for?
Medicaid pays for your room and board while you are at Oak Wood Place.
In addition you get to keep some money for incidental spending.

Can I bring my dog or cat with me when I move to Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
Yes we love small animals.
It is a proven fact that they can be good companions and are good therapy for all of us.

Do I have to go to the dining room for meals or can I just eat in my room?
You are free to prepare your own meals in your room.
We need to know when you do not plan to have a meal with all of us. Just let us know.

Who does my laundry?
At Oak Wood Place we will do all of your laundry, part of it, or none of it.
You decide.
We have a large commercial laundry for handling your linens.
But we also have 2 smaller laundry rooms for resident use.
We even provide the detergent, bleach and dryer sheets at no extra charge.

I heard you take residents on casino trips (to the boats)?
We love outings with our residents.
One of the favorites are trips to the casinos in Shreveport, La.
Oak Wood Place even provides the transportation to the Casino and $10 to each resident to use in the slots or for your meal - you decide.
And the buffet lunch is on us!

I want to be able to use the internet. Is that possible at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
Yes, every apartment is wired for internet, cable TV and telephone.
We also have free computers for resident use in our library.

Is there anyone available to teach me how to email or use the internet?
Yes. We have a number of residents who teach you every thing you need to know.
It is very easy to learn.
In addition, our full time Activity Director will assist.

How much selection is there in the meals prepared at Oak Wood Place?
We offer a wide selection of meals throughout the entire week.
We are always trying to improve our menus.
If you have a favorite dish or recipe, bring it with you and we will see if it can be prepared for everyone.

Somebody told me you had a Salad Bar?
Yes we have a Salad Bar for your convenience.
You make your selections or ask an attendant to make them for you.
It is all fresh and very delicious.

Can I have a flower or vegetable garden at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
You bet!
You can garden to your heart’s delight and we will furnish the plants, seeds, water, etc.
We will even use any vegetables you want to pass on to our kitchen.

May I bring car or truck when I move to Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
Yes. We have ample parking for your vehicle and you are free to use it anytime you want.

Do you provide Respite Care at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
Yes. We understand the need for such care and will be happy to arrange the care your loved one needs.
The resident must be ambulatory or able to transfer without assistance.
We cannot accept a bed patient.

I do not speak English very well. I speak Spanish. Can I live at Oak Wood Place?
Yes. We have staff that can speak Spanish.

Can you handle a blind or deaf resident?
A blind person or sight challenged, or hearing impaired resident is not a problem for the staff at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living.

Is the building at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living protected by fire alarms or sprinklers systems in case of fire?
The entire building has been built to the fire code specs of the City and State.
There are audible and visual alarms throughout the building and in all of the apartments.
The entire building has fire sprinklers.
The alarms are tested frequently and our staff is trained on evacuation procedures in case of any emergency.

What happens if there is a power outage?
At Oak Wood Place we have a large generator that will operate our facility on and emergency basis until power is restored.
|
Do you ever offer snacks between meal times to your residents?
Yes. We have a variety of snacks available.
Usually there are snacks available to residents mid-morning, mid-afternoon and about 8 PM.

Can I buy groceries and drinks for my apartment to use anytime I want?
Yes. That is not a problem. We will even take you to the store.
|
Can I drink alcohol at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
Yes.
We do not serve beer, wine or alcohol.
However, you are free to have a beer or drink in your room as long as it is in moderation.
We restrict the use of alcohol to your room.
If your doctor has prohibited you from using alcohol we will expect you to abide accordingly.

Are there any restrictions on children or visitors at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
No. We love visitors and welcome them at any time.
Small children must be in the care of an adult.

Can I bring my own furniture to my apartment?
Yes. You can bring your own bed, chest, pictures, etc.
If you do not want to do that, we have everything you need.

Can I get my hair fixed or a hair cut at Oak Wood Place Assisted Living?
Yes indeed.
We have a great beautician and our own salon at Oak Wood Place.
